The Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ISERC) recently participated in a Peer Learning and Twinning Session hosted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in Abuja. This collaborative engagement brought together officials from ISERC and key departments within NERC’s Secretariat for a series of interactive discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions.

During the visit, the ISERC delegation engaged extensively with NERC’s Legal, Licensing & Compliance Division, and other technical departments, deepening their understanding of regulatory best practices and operational frameworks essential for effective electricity market oversight. The programme facilitated robust exchanges on regulatory procedures, compliance oversight, licensing obligations, and other critical aspects of electricity sector governance.

This peer learning initiative forms part of the ongoing transition following the formal transfer of regulatory authority over the intrastate electricity market in Imo State from NERC to ISERC. The transfer, completed successfully after a six-month transition period, empowers ISERC to independently regulate the State’s electricity market in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electricity Act, 2023.
